“Badin H.S. Students Shave Heads To Support Classmate

“Kyle Bergen Diagnosed With Cancer

HAMILTON, Ohio — “Nearly 90 students at Badin High School had their heads shaved Tuesday in solidarity with Kyle Bergen, a freshman who is being treated for Hodgkins lymphoma and has lost all of his hair through the treatment.

“Twenty-three members of the freshman football team showed up at school with their heads already shaved Tuesday, having done so after practice on Monday. More than 60 additional students were buzzed during the lunch periods.

“In fact, four freshman girls made it a co-ed event by stepping up to get their heads shaved — Olivia Davis, Trisha Kalkhof, Katherine Schindler and Taylor Weltzer. Brian Pendergest, the dean of students, and Matt Thompson, director of custodial services, also went under the shears.

“Students also made donations that will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society from Badin High School in Kyle Bergen’s name.

“Bergen, a freshman from Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School in Liberty Township, had planned to play freshman football this year, but was ruled out this summer when he was diagnosed in June. His treatment is ongoing.”
