Cowboy Sayings June 29, 2010

Posted by gregquill in Uncategorized.

Things didn’t work out in Ohio, so now I’m headed to my next job.

A dream assignment for me! My Mom was born 200 miles north of there. I love that country, and those people.

Here’s some cowboy sayings by way of gettin’ ready:

~ Never squat with your spurs on.

~ Never kick a fresh cow chip on a hot day.

~ There’s two theories to arguin’ with a woman…. Neither one works.

~ Don’t worry about bitin’ off more than you can chew. Your mouth is probably a whole lot bigger than you think.

~ If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

~ After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion felt so good he started roaring. He kept it up until a hunter came along and shot him. The moral: When you’re full of bull, keep your mouth shut.

~ If you find yourself in a hole the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

~ Never smack a man who’s chewin’ tobacco.

~ It don’t take a genius to spot a goat in a flock of sheep.

~ Never ask a barber if he thinks you need a haircut.

~ Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

~ Always drink upstream from the herd.

~ Never drop your gun to hug a grizzly.

~ If you’re ridin’ ahead of the herd, take a look back every now and then to make sure it’s still there.

~ When you give a lesson in meanness to a critter or a person, don’t be surprised if they learn their lesson.

~ When you’re throwin’ your weight around, be ready to have it thrown around by somebody else.

~ Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back.

~ Always take a good look at what you’re about to eat. It’s not so important to know what it is, but it’s critical to know what it was.

~ The quickest way to double your money is to fold it over and put it back in your pocket.

~ Never miss a good chance to shut up.

I’m a’thinking ol Will Rogers is smiling somewhere knowing people still remember some of his more famous quotes.

You will love Cody, the rodeo capitol of the U.S. I believe they have a rodeo every single night of the spring/summer/fall. The owner of the local Best Western is a fellow Swift Boat Officer & he’ll cut you a good deal if you let him know you are an old Navy guy and want to get out of the motor home for a short spell. It is just down the street from the Wild Bill Hickock Museum which is a must see while you are there. On your way west, if you are traveling I-90, be sure to take a quick look at the Badlands, The Wall Drug Store in Wall, SD, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse & last but not least, The Devils Tower west of Spearfish not too far after you enter Wyoming. Liz & I really really enjoy the Black Hills area & have driven to Spearfish a couple of times.
Drive safe.

Don’t know what I was thinking (uh, maybe a bit of dain bramage after a very long day), but it certainly is not the Wild Bill Hickcock Museum in Cody, WY. It is the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum….duh! Anyway, it is well worth the price of admission.

You will definetly enjoy the area, beautiful land – beautiful people. I hope that you plan to drive to Yellowstone from there. What a drive! The scenery is so fantastic that we nearly went off-road (unintentionally). Anyway – have a safe trip.
