Every Man Jack of Them April 30, 2010

Winston Churchill delivered good speeches.

“We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

Yeah, it ended with his hand out for a handout from the New World (us). But a good speech.

Now BP is trying the same thing concerning the oil leak from their well which is turning the Gulf of Mexico into a cesspool tarpit. (Best to read it out loud, with that veddy Bridish looking-down-on-you-bloody-blokes arrogant accent.)

“We are doing absolutely everything in our power to eliminate the source of the leak and contain the environmental impact of the spill,” BP chief executive Tony Hayward said in a statement. “We are determined to fight this spill on all fronts, in the deep waters of the Gulf, in the shallow waters and, should it be necessary, on the shore.” He said the company welcomed offers of assistance from government agencies, other oil companies and even members of the public.”

See? He even ended it with his hands out for massive handouts.
