Dumb and Dumberer April 28, 2010

The very wealthy BP Corp wrecked an oil rig in the gulf. The first day we were guaranteed there was no leaking. Now, it’s a huge leak.

Our Coast Guard now thinks its a good idea to push all of the leaking oil spill together on top of the Gulf of Mexico, and set fire to it. Yeah, there will be some air pollution and toxic fumes but, hey, it will protect the Louisiana wetlands.

I have some thoughts on all of that (of course).

1. It’s the Gulf of MEXICO, compadres. Those dudes have to build new banks to hold all of the drug money they have now. They should fix the problem.

2. A flaming bunch of floating oil is somehow BETTER than a non-flaming bunch of floating oil? What are they SMOKING down there?

3. If you get the stuff together enough to make a good fire, how about NOT burning it, and pumping it up into a tanker? Put the oil into a tank ashore, connect a big pipe, an oil-water separator, a pump, and a bunch of filters, and connect the pipe back into the tank. Then just run it for as long as it takes to clean up the oil. And send the bill to BP and, I suppose, Mexico. When it’s clean, confiscate it and put it into the U.S. crude pipeline for free, or into the national petroleum reserve accounts, but keep it in the tank.

4. Then set fire to the office of Coast Guard Admiral Mary Landry. She has been the source of misinformation (at least) since this began. I think she’s about half a lie behind the story. She wants to protect the wetlands. How? Burning the oil will be just another nail in New Orleans’ coffin; and that name Landry has something to do with Louisiana, I think.

Who is in charge of all of this sloppy thinking? Goldman-Sachs? Senator Carl Levin? They could be contributors, sure; not an ounce of sense between them.

But the real leader has to be Nancy Pelosi, with scribe services by Harry Reid. They who symbolize government non-thinking, for whom this post is dedicated, and in honor of whom it is named.

But, maybe it would only be fair to add a third name to the title: Dumbo. The inexperienced Obama proposed about three weeks ago to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time.

The proposal, planned to please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates while angering residents of affected states and most tree huggers, will end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast, covering 167 million acres of ocean. Maybe he should find out why there is a longstanding moratorium.
