The Special Olympics March 19, 2009

I think that it would be proper and generous of people to cut the President some slack over his “bowling score Special Olympics” comment.

It was made on late night TV, in a self deprecating manner, without much thought.

He’s only been doing this for two months (although he’s been living it since the election), and it’s somewhat subtle, this change of context he cannot escape. There is no exit, nor respite. It wasn’t mean, or callous, or insensitive, and it wasn’t about the special olympians at all.

I think that we should cut him some slack.

I’m with you on this! Seems like there are many other more important issues for all of us to focus on to get sidetracked by this slip … but some folks seem to like pointing fingers rather than digging in to make a difference.

Storyteller, I am very opposed to some of his policies (like abortion and stem cells), but this one just seems to be ungracious of us, as you said.
