Now Would Be a Good Time April 6, 2008

Charlton Heston has died.

I was surprised he was still here. 83 or 84 years old.  He got enough notoriety at the NRA for two. He acted some good parts, but if you could cut him out of one (say, Ben-Hur) like a paper doll and paste him into another one (say, Michelangelo), well, they were interchangeable. He had one character, one speed, one delivery.

He did a lot to keep guns in the hands of saints and sinners alike. Which has made the U.S. a war zone not unlike the one he emoted in front of in Planet of the Apes.

He once said that I (or, we, I guess) could have his rifle “when you can pry it from my cold, dead hands!”

So, now would be a good time.

They said he had Alzheimer’s, so hopefully they took the rifles away a long time before now!

That’s why he lived in California, and I lived… elsewhere.
