A New Cardinal November 23, 2007

Tomorrow, Pope Benedict XVI will create 23 new Cardinals of the Catholic Church. And I know one of them.

 

He came to my wedding as a young priest and a friend of the family.  He has been a priest for 45 years, and an archbishop for 23.  He’s been in Rome as the head of the communications section, which includes Catholic newspapers and television. 

Now, at age 71, Archbishop John Foley will become a “young” cardinal, and likely to be one of the electors for the next Pope. He also has a reputation as one of the nicest guys in the Vatican. And that’s good. Very good. Because here is his boss:
