Radical Idea October 2, 2006

Posted by gregquill in Uncategorized.

Three schools have become murder scenes within a week. Another two were locked down today when a teen with a gun was spotted.

Copycats. One event like this encourages the terminally crazy to get their time in the sun. And to get their sick thrills.

Here’s a radical idea: No more news about school shootings. Or any kind of shooting, for that matter. De-glorify it.

Maybe just a statistical summary twice a year. How many happened, how many got solved, etc.

No more news helicopters, on-scene reporters, updates by the minute, breaking news. Oh, local public service announcements, sure: “Stay off the streets until we nuke this guy.”

Just a thought. Yeah, a little too much like Big Brother; and maybe we can’t trust the cops (and we surely can’t trust Congress) but the status quo just isn’t working.

The Amish, for Heaven’s sake. What could those good, gentle people possibly have done to bring this upon themselves?

Nothing, that’s what.

But but, “we need dirty laundry”…

I think that the Damnocrats and Flubicans can provide more than enough dirty laundry! Heck, Comedy Central has only one channel; C-Span has two!

And there’s always Hugo Chavez, Cindy Sheehan, and the Moe-Larry Curly show (Jesse, Shumer, and Sharpton). Hillarity, Barbara Boxershorts, Rumsfeld – – – yeah, plenty of dirty laundry without elevating shooters.
