It is not so sad that a dedicated public servant like Senator Ted Stevens has been so poorly served that someone let him get into compromising situations where it could appear that he took illegal money gifts.
What is sad is that Stevens and (forgive an overgeneralization) other professional pols assume BEFORE the fact that they WILL get away with ANYTHING, because everyone just loves them and respects them and adores them, and besides he has done SO MUCH for Alaska or (fill in the name of the ‘burb) that he DESERVES it.
Yeah. He deserves it.
And these are people who write our laws, who influence our friends and allies and our opponents around the world, who nominally represent us without supervision.
Now give him what he deserves. Now put him in the slammer for the full sentence. Not for a shortened one, because he’s old. Because he’s old, he knew better.

I used to take my kids to Kiss concerts when they were too young to go alone. My hearing may return someday.
GREG’s YouTube HINT:
Start the video playing. When the music starts, press the two parallel lines (II) in the lower left of the box until they turn into an arrow (>). Let the video download until the whole track next to the arrow is red. Then, click on the arrow (>), and the video will play WITHOUT those annoying interruptions while more bytes are buffered into your computer.

Let Sarah Be Sarah October 22, 2008

All of the news bogles are reporting that Sarah Palin charged the State of Alaska for her childrens’ travel to events requiring the Governor’s presence, including New York City in 2007. And she’s charging the RNC for their travel for the Presidential campaign.
And, over $150,000 in her clothing and clothes for her family has been paid for by the RNC. Her clothes may be donated to charity after the campaign.
And I say, so what? This just shows the smallness of the critics, and, more germane, the desperation of newsies for any story.
This just in from that paradigm of pusillanimosity, Campbell Brown: the government pays up to $50,000 for oil paintings of the departing President; and it also pays for similar portraits for cabinet officers at the end of their terms.
I say, good. Otherwise, all that history will have to go on are the mediocre, aging video tapes from CNN documenting these rogue galleries. Oh, and they were mediocre when they were shot, by the way. With a meaningless voice over by… well, Campbell Brown, among others. So, lighten up. Let’s paint the portraits, and let’s leave the Palins alone. They have a hard enough job, after all.
Will Campbell also complain about Obama taking two days off in Hawaii to see his sick grandmother?
Notes to the Candidates October 13, 2008

Disclaimer: I shall not vote for either of the major party candidates. If “None of the above” doesn’t apply in 2008, it never will.
To the candidates: Hey, you in the red blouse: stop WINKING at me!
Say, Mr. Older Guy, you are ruining my reputation with the under 40’s when you keep calling me “Friend”. Knock it off.
There will be plenty of recriminations the day after the election. Please note now that one party has two candidates campaigning, and the other is still only using one. If the “new” campaign starts today, they missed an important part of it. Here is today’s schedule:
* Senator Barack Obama delivers an economic policy address in Toledo, Ohio.
* Senator Joe Biden holds a community gathering in Rochester and Manchester, N.H. and attends a Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Dover, Del.
* Senator John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin hold a joint rally in Virginia Beach, Va. Later Mr. McCain holds a rally in Wilmington, N.C. and Ms. Palin visits the Richmond International Speedway in Richmond, Va.
[Maybe she'll get some autographs.]
It’s Just a Penny: Thoughts For a Penny October 8, 2008

We always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I’ve ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.
Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband’s employer’s home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than their house.
The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband’s employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.
As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.
He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.
Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.
He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?
Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.
A smile crept across the man’s face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see.. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?
‘Look at it.’ He said.. ‘Read what it says.’ She read the words ‘ United States of America ‘
‘No, not that; read further.’
‘One cent?’
‘No, keep reading.’
‘In God we Trust?’
‘Yes!’
‘And?’
‘And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never see m to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me.. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!
When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, ‘In God We Trust,’ and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.
It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient..
Thought for the Day:
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.
He sends you flowers every spring.
He sends you a sunrise every morning.
Face it, friend – He is crazy about you!
God didn’t promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.
Read this line very slowly and let it sink in…
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
